Committee Member Training Workshops

Currently, the Commission facilitates virtual and face-to-face training workshops for peer evaluators in the following review areas:

Unless otherwise noted, evaluator training workshops are “by-invitation only” and only open to individuals who are listed in the SACSCOC Peer Evaluator Registry as evaluators but have no or relatively limited experience in serving on evaluation committees. There are no fees for attending these workshops; however, participants are responsible for their own lodging/travel costs (for in-person sessions).

Academic Evaluators

The half-day training workshop for Academic peer evaluators is designed to focus on the following key areas: 1) the intent and structure (i.e., compliance components) of selected Principles of Accreditation related to Educational Programs / Policies and Faculty, 2) using professional judgment to interpret and apply the Principles analytically, and 3) the characteristics of a valid, clear, and constructive committee report. The workshop follows a highly interactive format by simulating a focused, scaled-down off-site review experience. The participants are expected to complete case study assignments before the workshop.

Finance Evaluators

The Finance evaluator training module provides detail and insight into SACSCOC finance accreditation standards. An emphasis is placed on acceptable documentation, and the interpretation of that documentation using professional judgment.  Examples of financial analysis are provided along with writing samples to guide the Finance evaluator’s approach to the interpretation and application of the Principles.

Training opportunities for current and prospective Finance peer evaluators are offered in conjunction with the SACSCOC Annual Meetings as two-hour sessions (separate sessions for public and private institutions). These sessions are open to all finance officers registered to attend the Annual Meeting. In addition, trainings for SACSCOC Finance evaluators are periodically offered at the SACUBO and other professional meetings for finance officers.

Governance and Administration Evaluators

The half-day training workshop for Governance and Administration peer evaluators (i.e., CEOs – Presidents and Chancellors) is designed to focus on the following key areas: 1) the intent and structure (i.e., compliance components) of selected Principles of Accreditation related to Governance, Administration, and Organization, 2) using professional judgment to interpret and apply accreditation principle analytically, and 3) the characteristics of a valid, clear, and constructive committee report. The workshop follows a highly interactive format by simulating a focused, scaled-down off-site review experience. The participants are expected to complete a case study assignment before the workshop.

Institutional Effectiveness (IE) Evaluators

The day-long training workshop for Institutional Effectiveness (IE) peer evaluators is designed to focus on the following key areas: 1) the intent and structure (i.e., compliance components) of selected Principles of Accreditation related to Institutional Effectiveness, 2) using professional judgment to interpret and apply the Principles analytically, and 3) the characteristics of a valid, clear, and constructive committee report. The workshop follows a highly interactive format by simulating a focused, scaled-down off-site review experience. The participants are expected to complete case study assignments before the workshop.

Library/Learning Resources Evaluators

The day-long training workshop for Library/Learning Resources peer evaluators is designed to focus on: 1) the intent and structure (i.e., compliance components) of selected Principles of Accreditation related to Library/Learning Resources, 2) using professional judgment to interpret and apply the Principles analytically, and 3) the characteristics of a valid, clear, and constructive committee report. The workshop follows a highly interactive format by simulating a focused, scaled-down off-site review experience. The participants are expected to complete a comprehensive case study assignment before the workshop.

The participants are expected to complete a comprehensive case study assignment before the workshop.
