Guidance Regarding Emergency Temporary Relocation of Instruction Due to Hurricane Helene or Milton
If Hurricane Helene or Milton interrupted instruction at your main campus or off-campus instructional site (OCIS) and you are relocating instruction to another physical location or to distance education / online delivery, you may submit an Emergency Temporary Relocation of Instruction request to SACSCOC.
Guidelines
- If instruction is expected to return to its original location in
- two weeks or less, then do not submit a request.
- more than two weeks, then submit a request.
- This two-week threshold applies only to temporary relocations due to Hurricane Helene or Milton.
- Intra-campus relocations are an institution’s prerogative; nothing is required. Relocating to a non-campus location requires notification (120 days maximum) or approval (one year maximum):
- A request is not required if relocating from
- a location on campus to another location on campus,
- a location on campus to an OCIS,
- an OCIS to another OCIS.
- A request is required if relocating to
- a non-campus location,
- a non-OCIS location, or
- distance education.
- A request is not required if relocating from
What to submit
- Refer to the Emergency Temporary Relocation of Instruction (https://sacscoc.org/app/uploads/2019/08/Emergency_Temporary_Relocation_of_Instruction.pdf) policy: there are six numbered items – address each in a brief narrative.
- Suggestion: submit an initial request for up to 120 days (requires notification only); if 120 days is not enough, you may submit a follow-up request for up to one year (requires SACSCOC Board of Trustees approval).
How to submit
- Submit your request through the Institutional Portal as a substantive change:
- Under “What category of substantive change…,” select “Special Cases”
- Select “Temporary Emergency Relocation of Instruction.”
- Complete the screening questions and submit.
- Upload your request, including all required information listed in the policy.
