Committee Member Training Workshops

Currently, the Commission facilitates face-to-face training workshops for peer evaluators in the following review areas:

Additional regional peer evaluator training workshops are currently being planned and will be offered in Fall 2020.

Academic Evaluators

The half-day training workshop for Academic peer evaluators is designed to focus on: 1) the intent and structure (compliance components) of selected Principles of Accreditation related to Educational Programs and Faculty, 2) professional judgment to analytically interpret and apply the Principles, and 3) the characteristics of a valid, clear, and constructive committee report. The workshop follows a highly interactive format by simulating a focused, scaled-down off-site review experience. The participants are expected to complete a case-study assignment prior to the workshop.

Currently, Academic evaluator workshops are “by-invitation only” and only open to individuals who are listed in the SACSCOC Peer Evaluator Registry as Academic evaluators but have no or relatively limited experience in serving on evaluation committees. There are no fees for attending these workshops; however, participants are responsible for their own lodging/travel costs. The following Academic evaluator training workshops will be offered in 2020:

  • July 19, 2020
    • Pre-conference workshop at the 2020 SACSCOC Summer Institute | Orlando, FL (please note that registration for the Summer Institute is required)

Finance Evaluators

The Finance evaluator training module provides detail and insight into finance standards. An emphasis is placed on acceptable documentation, and the interpretation of that documentation using professional judgment.  Examples of financial analysis are provided along with writing samples to guide the Finance evaluator’s approach to interpretation and application of the Principles.

Training opportunities for current and prospective Finance peer evaluators are offered in conjunction with the SACSCOC Annual Meetings as two-hour sessions (separate sessions for public and private institutions). These sessions are open to all finance officers registered to attend the Annual Meeting. In addition, training for Finance evaluators are periodically offered at the SACUBO and other professional meetings for finance officers.

For more information about training for Finance peer evaluators, please contact Ms. Donna Barrett, Director of Institutional Finance, at dbarrett@sacscoc.org.
